Those Who Are Thirsty, Drink

When was the last time you found yourself so thirsty you just couldn't take it any longer? Were you so dry that your tongue just stuck to your mouth? Did you yearn for just a sip to quench your desire? Did you think about anything else or was your focus just on water that you so desperately needed? Did you savor every last drop when you finally got your relief? Did you stop after just one sip or did you continue to drink until you were full, satisfied, and no longer parched?

I wanted to get you thinking about this for a very special reason. The answers are that you craved it with every inch of your soul and you'd stop at nothing to savor every drop as it hit your tongue and ran down your throat. When you are that thirsty it will taste like the best water you've ever had every time. You won't stop drinking either until you have finished nearly every drop from the bottle and vanquished that yearning deep inside you that just couldn't go on without that life saving water. Now let me ask you this, have you ever been thirsty for something else in your life? Has your spirit ever yearned for something so much that it was constantly on your mind and nothing could grab your attention until that need was met? Has your heart ever ached for that one thing that would just solve all your problems and leave you with the greatest happiness you've ever felt? Now even a tougher question, was it God that was that desire?

See many times in life we seek out and desire things that are material or not of God. We desire clothes, jobs, fortunes, loves, and many other things except what we should be thirsty for the most. We are so willing to chase and focus entirely on the things this world has to offer but we fail to spend the time reading the word and drawing closer to the person who gave all to save each and everyone of us. Those things in our lives never keep us fully satisfied either when we finally get them. We continuously yearn for the next thing that will make us happy or satisfy us in the moment while we put our love for God on the back burner on a low simmer. That pot should be boiling over and our desire for Him should be so great that we are practically running to drink from Him.

You say but how can I drink from God? See here is where the true lesson begins. You may find it odd but you can drink from God, but it may not be in the way you first think. See God has the ability to fill you better than you have ever been nourished before. He has the keys to your every desire and is able to give you something that no man can give you. Jesus said, " “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!  Anyone who believes in me may come and drink!" That is an open invitation and one we should all be running to without fear or hesitation, because see there is something special about this water. This is a water that never runs dry and tastes better than any other you've ever had.

37 On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! 38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” (John 7:37-38 NLT)

See David talked about a water he saw flowing forth from the throne of God. He understood what this water was and he marveled at the way it poured out above the heavens and glorified the name of God. See he knew what this water represented cause God revealed it to him in his spirit before almost anyone else could understand it. That river is known of the River of Life or the living waters that flows from the throne of God. It is the Holy Spirit which is also revealed to us by Jesus in verse 39 of John chapter 7. Because Jesus gave everything for us, because He sacrificed it all, and because He entered into glory He has sent us the Holy Spirit to dwell within us when we are saved.

To often we don't crave after the Holy Spirit to be in our lives. We brush Him off and often fail to recognize all that He has done for us and how He has comforted and dwelt within our own hearts. See before you ever got saved you felt that nudge on you heart telling you to seek out the Lord and receive your salvation. That was the Holy Spirit knocking on your heart beating at the callous that was over it. See before you ever met Jesus you met the Holy Spirit who ministered to you and brought about the revelation in your heart. This is why we should thirst for the spirit of God more and more each day.

1 Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations. (Revelation 22:1-2 NLT)

There is peace when He is there, there is love when He is there, there is freedom when He is there, there is forgiveness when He is there, there is a promise of hope when He is there, and there is the embrace of the Father that makes you whole when He is there. He makes away and gives you wisdom in all the things you do. He helps you wear the armor of God and continues to nourish your spirit with more and more of Gods glory each and every moment whether you notice it or not.

Having the Holy Spirit within you unlocks so many doors and barriers in your walk with God. When you don't know what to pray or how to pray it, He will show you and give you the words. When someone is down and you don't know how to encourage them, He will tell you everything you need to say and provide you with the perfect words in the perfect timing. When someone isn't so sure about their relationship with Christ or whether they should believe, He will help you minister to them and take away their fears. When the enemy comes against you and tells you that you will never amount to anything, that you are lower than the lowest, that you are dirty, that you should be ashamed, that you can't be loved, that you're not worthy, that you will always be alone, that you grace was never meant for you and it will never change you, He will edify you and show you love. He will tell you that the enemy is a liar and that you are the son or daughter of the Most High and he chooses to dwell in YOU!! He will cast out your fears and leave you renewed no matter the struggle or trial. He will cradle you like a new born baby and wipe away every tear while giving you the rest you desperately need and deserve.

So I ask you today are you thirsty? Do you want more of God? Do you need a drink from the Holy Spirit? Do you have river of life flowing out of you? Is today the day you get a touch of God like you've never felt before? Make Him the desire in your heart and drink from living waters! Don't just go to Him like you do a fountain but get thirsty for God and His word! Make His word your craving and allow your soul to be a living testimony of His love, mercy, and grace through the Holy Spirit that lives in you!!!
